The iConquerMS Research, Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Council (RIDE) Council received the prestigious Jury Special Award at the Made With Patients Awards – the first global recognition for the initiative for achievement in patient engagement! Selected from 92 nominations, the RIDE Council was recognized for its exceptional work in promoting patient involvement in research.
People affected by MS, from historically marginalized populations, are significantly underrepresented in MS research. When research studies lack diversity, in areas of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socio-economic standing, abilities, and in other dimensions, the evidence generated is not applicable to all.
Research studies that reflect the population of those living with MS, and that are designed to enable and encourage participation from all, are the pathway forward to improving the health, healthcare, and quality of life for all affected by MS.
Despite progress in understanding MS in historically marginalized populations, substantial gaps in our knowledge remain. These gaps are largely due to low enrollment of individuals from these populations in MS clinical trials.
The RIDE Council is dedicated to expanding participation in research by amplifying the voices and experiences of people from traditionally underrepresented communities. Their efforts move us closer to a future where everyone living with MS has access to the best possible information, outcomes, and care.
The RIDE Council provides key support to all stakeholders in MS research
People with MS have a dedicated group making sure they are included in clinical trials.
Researchers have a resource to help them achieve diversity goals in their studies.
Organizations have tools to include and support groups that have been left out in the past.
The RIDE Council is a key part of the iConquerMS initiative, aiming to ensure the full MS community is represented in research and support activities. By prioritizing the voices and needs of traditionally marginalized groups, the council not only strengthens the impact and relevance of research but also promotes equitable healthcare and creates a more inclusive, supportive environment for all individuals with MS.
