Portrait of David Schmidt

David Gwynne
Director, Alliances & Operations

David Gwynne works at the intersection of science and partnership, engaging with academic and industry researchers to explore how ACP’s biosamples and data can accelerate their work. He leads discussions with investigators, structures biosample and data access requests, and executes legal agreements. He also collaborates with the ACP team to make returned research datasets available on the DNAnexus platform — ensuring that findings from more than 150 studies can be accessed and synthesized by researchers worldwide. Through this work, he provides researchers with access to one of the largest and most comprehensive MS biospecimen collections in the world.

David’s connection to MS research runs deep. At Cambridge Neuroscience, he led an MS drug discovery group whose work resulted in a compound licensed to Bayer. He later served as VP of Business Development at Indevus Pharmaceuticals, where he out-licensed neurology drug candidates. He also assisted in licensing an Alzheimer’s drug candidate from Italian pharma company Chiesi, and went on to lead a drug discovery startup in Toronto before joining ACP.

David holds a PhD and a Master’s degree from McGill University and the University of Toronto, respectively, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of California. He lives in Eastern Ontario with his family. Outside of work, he serves on his community’s Municipal Heritage Advisory Committee and is an enthusiastic photographer, boater, and licensed pilot.
