Stephanie Buxhoeveden
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Stephanie Buxhoeveden, PhD, MSN, FNP-BC, MSCN, brings a perspective to her role at ACP that few researchers can claim: she is a scientist, a clinician, an advocate, and a person living with MS. As Chief Scientific Officer, she leads ACP’s research portfolio, including iConquerMS, and oversees the scientific direction of ACP’s inclusive research initiatives.
After being diagnosed with MS at 25, Stephanie dedicated her career to advancing understanding, treatment, and patient-centered research in this complex disease. She went on to become an MS-certified nurse and later a neurology nurse practitioner, co-directing a comprehensive MS care center in Fredericksburg, Virginia and caring for over 1,000 individuals living with MS. She has also worked in industry as a Medical Science Liaison with Biogen, where she supported clinical research and engaged with healthcare providers and researchers.
Stephanie first joined ACP as a volunteer to help establish iConquerMS. That work inspired her to pursue a PhD at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she was awarded an NIH National Research Service Award predoctoral fellowship. Her research focuses on epigenetic drivers of sex-based disparities in MS.
In addition to her research leadership, Stephanie is a longtime Nursing Consultant with Can Do MS and host of their podcast. She serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the National MS Society’s Virginia–West Virginia Chapter. Through her work across clinical care, research, and community leadership, she is committed to ensuring that the voices and experiences of people living with MS are meaningfully integrated into research and care.
